MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University fall season athletic teams put a total of 100 student-athletes on the 2021 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team. Tufts ranks first in the conference with 139 student-athletes on the All-Academic list, while Middlebury is second with 136. Wesleyan is behind Bowdoin (133) and Williams (121) with the fifth-most academic honorees in the conference.
In order to earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or equivalent on a 4.0 scale. Transfer students are eligible as long as they have completed at least one year of study at the institution.
The Cardinals were led by the women's soccer program who had 23 honorees followed by the football (20) and field hockey (16) programs. Women's cross country (13), men's soccer (12), men's cross country (9) and volleyball (7) made up the 100 honorees. There are nine student-athletes - Grace Devanny '23 (women's soccer), Liam Devanny '23 (men's soccer), Sarah Hammond '22 (women's soccer), Brina Kuslak '22 (volleyball), Julia Meehan '21 (women's soccer), Diana Schwarz '23 (field hockey), Mariko Tanaka '24 (volleyball), Logan Tomlinson '23 (football) and Daniel Yoon '24 (football) - who were All-Academic and All-NESCAC selections.
Representing Wesleyan on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team are Cal Neveu '22 (men's cross country), Quinn Meinhardt '24 (women's cross country), Gabby Guzdek '22 (field hockey), Charlie McPhee '22 (football), Lucas Kimball '22 (men's soccer), Chloe Odabashian '23 (women's soccer) and Maddie Kurke '22 (volleyball). This was Guzdek's second time representing Wesleyan on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
